At-Tafilah Museum

The Tafila Archaeological Museum is a unique new addition to the tourist attractions in Tafila Governorate. The museum houses a collection of significant artifacts representing famous historical sites in the governorate, such as Khirbet Al-Dheirah, Khirbet Al-Tannour, Al-Rashadiya Church, and the ruins of Busaira.

Located in the center of Tafila City, the museum reflects the succession of historical periods, from the late Edomite period to the late Islamic periods.

The museum aims to showcase Tafila’s rich archaeological heritage, serving as a key component of the local cultural and historical identity.

Tafila is home to over 1,800 archaeological sites from various historical periods.

A collection of artifacts representing human presence across the ages is on display, including items from the Nabataean, Hellenistic, Islamic, and Ottoman periods.

The story of Tafila is enriched by displaying Ottoman and Victorian coins, which tell the story of the Ottoman soldier stationed at Khirbet Al-Rashadiya, a military post from the Ottoman period.

The building's story itself speaks of the generosity and hospitality of the people of Tafila and their love for knowledge. The establishment of the building was based on donations from the local community to create a kuttab (a traditional school) or a school known as Al-Rashadiya School. It was one of the first schools to be established through generous donations from the tribes of Tafila.
